So I came across a blog post a month or so ago about making a paper pieced bowls mini quilt via a *blog hop* and something just grabbed me and I hit the *join* button. Apparently, so did 160+ other fine quilters! Several women every day for the next however many days will be showing what they came up with. I am day number two and already BLOWN AWAY by what people came up with! Especially the hostess of this blog hop, Carol, who made FOUR unique and fabulous mini quilts with the same paper pieced bowl pattern. So awesome! Seriously, please do click over and check out her work. Makes me almost ashamed to post mine, but I'd be MORE ashamed not to come through on a commitment so here goes:
I was at my mom's house last month and she very generously shared a WHOLE BUNCH OF batik fabrics with me. After recently seeing this video about how batiks are made I have a new and undying respect for the makers of these fabrics. It's art, for sure. And I think the fabric is non personal enough so that anyone would like it. As soon as I started sewing these bowls with this fabric all I could think was bowls of sushi rice, so that's why I hung it on chopsticks. :-)
When I signed up for the blog hop I thought of the local annual fundraiser called Empty Bowls to benefit the Arcata Endeavor (homeless outreach) and that I would donate my fabulous creation to their silent auction at their October event. However, when I further investigated, I found they had closed up shop (lost funding) earlier this year. :-[ Made me sad on a couple of fronts, as you can well guess. So I kinda lost my oomph to make a real WOW of a piece, but still; it's kinda cute. To give you a sense of how ridiculously tiny these pieces are, look at the little yellow triangle pieces next to a dime.
gah! Crazy, right?
Speaking of sewing...I've mentioned more than once that if nothing else, the reason I keep this blog going is because people literally from all over the world come here to access the tutorial for making roman blinds that I put up almost 4 years ago. I get probably 400 hits a day just for that post. I LOVE it when people take the time to let me know that my instructions gave them the courage and belief that they COULD make their own. I have to share with you here (before I go and add it to the original post) the results a no-blog reader; JoAnn, recently sent me.
Ahhh! Talk about GOBSMACKED!! wowee!!
I am SO very impressed. And nothing makes me happier than thinking I helped. :-) So I guess that's that. I can NEVER close down this blog! :-)
Do make sure and check Carol's blog over the next few days for links to many other creative gals and their interpretations of the groovy bowls pattern that Regina Grewe so generously shared.
