Here's the Halloween pics of the two in-town grandkids for 2010 in case anyone besides Auntie Erica is interested ;-)
So I had a brilliant idea for Madison. It all started with the Hello Kitty rain boots, and John; upon noticing the pull-up handles on the boots remarked, "are those firefighter boots?" Then they got pink polka dot rain coats at Costco. Then I had a vision of what Hello Kitty water would look like spraying out of a hose (yeah, I actually *see* stuff like that. Weird, I know). So I got to work.
Here's my version of a spray of Hello Kitty water. I have to say, it turned out better than any of the other elements.
Unfortunately we had to bribe her in every way we could think of just to get her to hold it long enough to snap a couple of pictures.
The hat turned out pretty cute. I had a red one from the dollar store and I spray painted it white. . Designed a "Hello Kitty Firefighter" emblem, sized it to fit and stuck it on. The day before Halloween, as I was bustling everyone out the door, arms brimming with various personal belongings, the hat was dropped and a piece broke off. I was notified of this on the afternoon of Halloween, so it looks all bubbly and weird there on the right front side because I hot glued it back together and quickly spray painted the area again right before she showed up that night. I even sprinkled some talcum on it just to get the whole mess to hurry up and dry so she could wear it.
It was a pretty cute idea for the back of the jacket too, but the adhesive wouldn't stick at all and I didn't want to make it totally permanent so the fabric HKFD emblem is safety-pinned on.
Melissa says that by the end of trick or treating she (Melissa) was carrying one boot, the hose, the hat and the candy bag. Madison was wearing one boot, the jacket, a tutu skirt, and a happy birthday hat she had obtained from a 'non-traditional' Halloween home (only in Arcata!). She'd reinvented herself as a pink hobo. What a big fat fiasco, huh? Well, you get the idea. Maybe someone can do a better job of it next year. Feel free!;-)
Here's Caleb.
I think maybe for the first time in his life I didn't say, "Wait, let me take another just to be sure." I mean really...how can you screw up a picture of this? Who knows if he's mid-smile or his eyes were closed? lol. All I know is that it was the only thing he wanted to be so his mom was nice enough to let him be it.
I'll close with a better pic of him. This year's soccer photo. Hard to believe he's already been at it for five years! He's our year-round star and favorite weekend activity, for sure. :-)
