Hello friends. I'm popping in to share my weekly weight progress and a quilt I finished yesterday. I'll give you the good news first. ;-)
I have to tell you I had SOOO much fun finding all the different fabrics that would go with these panels. I loved them all so much that at first I had a real hard time starting. Couldn't think of a pattern that would be worthy...in short; I was really overthinking it! Then I finally just picked a simple foundation pieced block pattern and went for it. I always have a stack of inspirational books and magazines on my bedside table. Five minutes of turning pages, no matter what book it is, will put me down faster than any sleeping pill. I thought it was so fortuitous that I'd recently pulled Lesley Riley's Quilted Memories from the shelf. I don't know if she still does this in her art quilts, but in that book she rarely if ever finished edges. The raw edges actully add character, interest and dimension .
So, knowing this quilt needed a scalloped edge, and not wanting to put the TIME needed into creating a nice and finished edge, I just drew the scallops on the back side, sewed around it three times, then trimmed close to the stitching. I rather like it on this particular quilt, because of the sketchy/*imperfect* nature of the line drawings in the panels. I was thinking of putting kits together, since I have so many sets of the panels and access to lots of coordinating prints but I can't come up with a pattern I like that doesn't involve foundation paper piecing, and I know that's not most people's cuppa tea, so no kit plans on the horizon. If you have an alternate idea I'd love to hear it.
Remember those Chex turtle bars I recommended last week? They come in a box of 35 bars at Costco. Well, I'm here to recant that recommendation. Folks; they put something very addictive in those bars. Crack, for all I know!! I ate the entire box in seven days. Oh my goodness, yes I did! The only reason I went to the weekly Weight Watchers meeting yesterday was to confess my sins and claim a fresh start. I'm surprised I only gained just under half a pound. So consider yourself warned!
We're very lucky to have the WW leader that we do. Scott Marcus is a professional motivational speaker and all around great guy. You should take a look at some of the links to his writing. Good stuff, whether you're looking to lose weight or not.
Have a happy rest of the week, and don't forget to sign up here for my One World One Heart give-away (if you haven't already). Tomorrow's the last day.
Cheers!
So your saying walk away from the Costco bars?? Lolol

This quilt is amazing. I love the scalloped, raw edges, but I'm pretty surprised you're okay with them.

Oh My. Gosh. Is that the cutest! Nice work, very creative and spontaneous and totally different from stuff I've seen. Very clever as usual.
I've had those Turtle bars. I avoid that aisle now.

I love that quilt, it is so adorable! I like the idea of doing the scallop that way.

I love this. It is so artistic and so cute with a slight hint of kitch. Perfection Jen. I love it. I knew as soon as I saw the colors I would want to stare at it. Hmm haven't seen those turtle things at costco. But that is like warning someone not to look at a trainwreck. I have to see if they have them now!
