This time last year I was having lots of fun making decoupage plates. I made some personal ones like this western one for Donna's family
and commemorated my own first Christmas using a sweet pic of my older sis and I
I also made a few 'stock' plates and did fairly well selling them on etsy
I had every intention of making more this year but just haven't found the time. I was in Target the other day and saw this fabulous pack of script tissue paper and snagged it thinking "OH! This would be an awesome background on some John Derian-like plates!" lol...on closer inspection I found that it was actually part of the John Derian line now available at Target. Cool Stuff! I recently had this idea, luckily before Madison's first birthday, to serve her cake on the same plate that I would decoupage the picture to. Thus turning this
into this
I think the older she gets, the more meaningful it will become to her. I like to use Cath Kidston napkins as backgrounds. I also like to finish the back sides nicely, and go over the edge with a metallic paint pen like this--
I scored the scalloped plates at the dollar store last year--bought every one they had, of course! ;-) I hope I have inspired some of you to create your own commemorative pieces this year.
This is my second writing of this post today...I somehow lost the whole thing earlier...so I will now happily hit 'save' and go see what other trouble I can get in to today. ;-) Happy holidays!
Oh Jen, what lovely stuff.

You are so inventive, plus you follow through on your ideas. I get stuck on the computer with visions of things I want to do dancing in my brain, and find I've run out of time to do them. Did you have a tutorial last year concerning sealing the photos on the plate?

Those are so cute! And I WISH it wasn't December 7th already! TG was late this year, and it has screwed me up... but I'm definately inspired! There's a few weeks left! I'll try! LOL!

What cute plates! Where did you get those beautiful scalloped edge plates to decoupage?
