John and I started listening to The Secret about 4 or 5 weeks ago. First we watched the movie, then got the audiobook on cd and put it on our iPods. John, yikes; don't get him started. He's literally a changed man, and all for the better I might add. Miracles small and large have been happening for him. For instance, after having his gall bladder removed 16 years ago it left his stomach in a mess. For the first three years he suffered horribly when he didn't adhere to a very strict (bland) diet. Then a doctor tried him on a medication that's actually for lowering cholesterol, but has a side effect that binds the bile salts or some such thing...it really helped him a lot. So many days he'd forget to take his medicine before he at and the day would always include some level of pain, discomfort, pulling over for emergency bathroom use. Three weeks ago he declared to the universe that he would like to have a healthy stomach without taking medicine. Within five days he was eating chorizo and suffering NO ill effects. It continues to this day. Monumentous. He has story after story. I'm about to encourage him to start a blog, as he LOVES to talk about it and I'm wearing thin as his main audience. ("Hello! I was there with you, ya 'member?")
We have a friend who is the same age as me. In July she had her second round of treatment for an advanced case of bladder cancer. Throughout this second round she was practicing what she'd learned in The Secret, as well as implementing chinese herbal therapy, accupuncture, visualization and meditation. The doctor told her she had a mere 17% chance of beating it. The rest of us were expecting to hear the worst on August 6, but the news was this; the cancer was completely gone and her bladder was just as healthy as yours or mine. Phenomenal.
When I listen to The Secret I realize that we really have known these things all along. Like, I often refer to Karma...how it sometimes is instantaneous but it almost always does come around. This is what I now know as The Law of Attraction. Before John's recent enlightenment, he'd chastise me for being so generous. "You're always giving stuff away!" Like that was a bad thing. I'd just say "It'll come back to me and then some" because it always does. I have so many blessings...how could I dare be selfish! Again, that's The Law of Attraction at work. Basically, you get what you give. So here's one of my recent stories.
About four weeks ago I went to the monthly Flea Market (lame...small...but you never know what they may have so occasionally I go). I saw an old acquaintance who was there doing a one-time booth with her friend. We chatted, and long story short, she remembers I like old sewing stuff and hooks me up with this friend she's with. He bought an old estate a year ago. He's gone through it and through it..sifting out all the valuables, furniture, etc. All that's left is what he considers garbage, and if I'm willing to drive an hour and a half out to the boonies I'm welcome to it. Luckily my friend Bonnie was in town that week for her monthly consultant work. Luckily the place she was supposed to go that day had called off at the last minute. So she went with me. (Are you seeing all these stars get in alignment?) To help me dig through FOUR FIFTY-FIVE GALLON DRUMS PLUS ONE BIG TRUNK OF OLD FABRIC! I kid you not. And we did dig through ALL of it. I think the newest stuff in those barrels was thick polyester from the 70's. We had to go through piece by piece because it was such a hodge podge of good and bad. We kept half-expecting to come across a family of rats or something (thank God we didn't!) I ended up with over half a hefty bag of choice vintage cottons. I spent the better part of four days washing and drying and ironing (petting) this new collection. Here's a sampling of some cottons
OH the pictures don't do them justice. Also I've got one full grocery bag of old flannels.
Look at the spacemen and cowboys and indians in these boy flannels!
Astounding. The Secret says that your desire or request can even be subconscious. Of course, I'd always dreamed about finding a bunch of vintage fabric, but did I really think I was going to? No. Not really. So this house was really kinda creepy. I'm so glad Bonnie was with me. No floor coverings, no plaster on the walls. Everything about the inside of the house itself was just brown. And dark. I noticed in a corner of an upstairs room (by the trunk full of fabric) dozens and dozens of rolls. ROLLS OF VINTAGE WALLPAPER! Well now you can just knock me down with a stinkin' feather. Vintage fabric and wallpaper. And I find it. Or it finds me. The universe puts us together. And the guys who owns it considers it trash and just lets me have it for free. Incredible. Some of these rolls go way back to the 20's, and they'd just been stuffed in the attic all this time. Like five rolls of this red rose scroll
Rolls that usually sell for upwards of $90 on ebay, like the one I used on the dresser and door I posted a couple weeks ago, as well as this lovely light green.
Also some I'd never seen the likes of before. Look at this one; gold glitter and handpainted white flowers on brown kraft paper
And this yellow is particularly lovely.
I only cherry-picked what I knew I'd use or was worth selling, and I brought home 35 rolls. I swear, this is a story I'll tell my great grandchildren.
We wake up every day happy and excited for what the day will bring. It's a great way to feel. You know what they say; it's all in the attitude! (again, you attract what you think and feel). If you haven't already read, watched, or heard The Secret, I hope this post may provide the nudge you need! Every day is an opportunity to make a new happy ending.
This is my first visit to your blog (which is lovely btw) and I enjoyed this post---you sure hit the mother-lode big time at that old house! One man's trash is another man's treasure as they say. Thank goodness you found it in time. I've long believed in "The Secret" and know my life wouldn't be what it is today without practicing that philosophy.
