Up until recently, my daughter Melissa and her boyfriend Travis' bedroom looked like most 20-something's who aren't into decorating or much of anything else other than working and watching mtv. Just a bunch of brown things from whoever had handed stuff down. With a new baby girl coming any day now and no choice but to put her in their room Melissa asked me to help decorate. She got a good deal on a used crib and changing table and I guess I kinda took over on the rest of it.
Funny thing is, it's in part still hand-me-downs! I grew tired of the purple and green bedding when I recently re-did our room so passed it on to her.
And the paint was a half gallon of leftover from my new green room... I just topped it back up to full with off-white. I bought the semi-sheer white dotted swiss toppers at the thrift shop months ago, just because I thought they were so sweet. Was happy that I could actually put them to use with these curtains.
And speaking of these curtains. What do non-sewers do for window coverings these days? And even if you DO sew, it almost seems cheaper to buy ready made. I paid $30 for the fabric even at 40% off, and then sat at the machine for three hours. Honestly...it's not something someone could do to make a living, now is it?
These two pieces were bought separately. I was driving by one of the local thrift shops and saw that top piece out on the sidewalk. Man! You gotta drive by that place two or three times a day or ya might miss something! ;-) Just yesterday I pulled over right quick and snagged a hefty bag full of free packing peanuts. Anyway, I just wanted to force that little thing to be a closet, so I went over to ebay and found 8 inch hangers that would fit, but when they got here and I saw their little hanger tops I had to take out the regular size nine inch rod and glue in a little dowel. too funny, I know. But hey; it works! :-)
After I took all these pictures this morning Melissa said, "Can I throw my clean clothes back in the crib now?" Little smarty-pants. Not sure what she's gonna do when the baby comes...maybe start folding clothes.
In my opinion there are very few reasons to go to a K-Mart, but one of them is definitely the Martha Stewart kitchen towels. They really never disappoint. Here's a recent set of seven that sells for $9.99. The colors are great and the rick-rack is already on them. I thought I'd show you what a great gift idea they are when you add a monogram. I've bought several of the Sixxiz Bigz Alpha dies and plan on getting several more. I love the size and the font. The uses for these will be limitless, no doubt!
hmmm. I think I oughta run back there and get three more sets. ;-) 'Cause you know; when they're gone, they're gone!
Those dish towels of yours ROCK!!! I need to copy that idea!

The room is so beautiful Jen! Love the two piece desk storage. I find I do my best work when I combine lots of leftovers together. I like my things to look different from all the store bought stuff. The baby will have such a beautiful home here in her shabby chic bedroom!

gah, you enabler, now I must have those towels! :-)
I hate sewing curtains, I think it is an incredibly difficult job for some reason. (Who knows why I feel that way!)
I got my wallpaper, love it, love it, and hope to get your little package in the mail this weekend.
