Hi! Yet another mural courtesy of Duane Flatmo today. This is the front of Pierson's Building Center, my favorite local hardware store.
I couldn't get a straight shot of this to save my life (they gate the entrance when they close so it's either photograph while open for business or not at all). Here's the above shown in two halves:
The other side of the entrance:
If you knew the local area, you'd see that this mural depicts many of the different areas that make up Humboldt County. Particular homes in Eureka, the dairy cows in Ferndale, the lighthouse in Trinidad, Southern Humboldt redwoods, etc. Here's the front of the building, as seen while driving down the main drag (which is also highway 101)
John just came in and peeked over my shoulder and said I shouldn't be posting all of these at once 'cause I'll run out too soon, but I don't think so!
Mom and I had a great time up in Oregon visiting her sister. We just got back last night. Aunt Patty lives in Waldport which is a coastal town, and her house is right on the 8th fairway of the local golf course. Here's the view sitting on the couch looking out her living room window
Every morning with that view; the black birds with the cool picket fence in the background...wish I could've opened the door and taken the shot to avoid the window glare but I was sure they'd have flown off.
Each day was pretty much the same, too. Thrifting, antiquing and going to yard sales til around 2, then playing at the dining table with beads til late at night. Heaven! I came up with some nice pieces; bracelets, mostly inspired by my new favorite artist wendy baker. She makes some BOMB baubles, let me tell you! AND, generous soul that she is, she even shares the makings for these fab creations in her etsy shop. I haven't taken good pics yet so won't share what I made, but I did snap a couple shots of vintage treasures I found each day.
I wish you could see the opalescent sheen on these sweet FireKing coffee mugs! And the rose ribbon is actually woven, which makes the backside not so attractive but OH who can find this stuff anymore? The one next to that is from around the 1920s. The aqua ribbon is velvet. All of these were $2/yd and yes, I bought all that she had! Of the rhinestone pieces, the most expensive one was that big round one in the front for $8. The little pieces on the tissue were a dollar each...she let me fish around in her 'broken bits' box for those. I went to sleep that night thinking "surely, I didn't get ALL the good bits out of Bev's stash!" so I went back the next day and sure enough I found 18 more!
All of these were happily affordable and just too sweet not to buy. I know these pics aren't the best but OH that lucite hand mirror is just a delight!
I think my favorite thing about this wood silverware tray is that it still has the Montgomery Ward two dollar price tag on it! The play money kit must be around 80 years old and the money seems hardly touched!
These pics are of the antique and thrift store finds. We REALLY went wild at the yard sales on Saturday! Yikes! You may remember back in April when I bought the 3-step aqua wooden ladder from Larissa at the antique show we did together? Well, I got a 5-step red one equally as cool FOR FREE at a yard sale, which was just icing on the cake of a fab shopping day that left us barely able to close the back hatch of the Explorer and haul it all home! Too much fun. Max the cat got out today and I whipped that ladder out to get him off the roof so already it's paid for its self! ;-)
We're driving all day tomorrow to take Mom home. 500 miles south to the land of 100 degrees+. Argh. I've left my beading supplies in the car and will sit in the air conditioned house for a couple three days playing some more while Melissa gets her 'hanging out at Grandma's house' fix and Caleb get's his 'playing with Grandma Peggy's dogs' fix. :-) Take care and have a great week!
As always, I'm drooling over your loot! And I love the murals!

OK, Honey, I am so envious of your FAB finds! And the murals in your town are to die for! Did I tell you about the time I was in Eureka back in 1991? I drove there!
