Amy, our next to oldest daughter, invited us over to Redding this weekend to meet the family of her relatively new (less than a year)/first real serious boyfriend, Dave. John and I just could not be happier for this girl, who deserves all the best. She's worked hard and never settled for less and by golly I believe it's paid off. Do these two not look very happy to be together?
It was Dave's 30th birthday and most of his family was there. We had a bbq in the backyard of his grandma's home which is just my idea of perfection. Check this out;
Taken from her deck. Ruth, Dave's 79 year old grandma, mows this backyard herself, and actually apologized that it didn't look quite perfect because she'd run out of time to use the weedeater on it. I'm sure you can probably tell by looking, this property sits on an acre of ground. Makes me tired just thinking about it! She maintains this perfect yard and keeps her own house and cooks fabulous food AND golfs three days a week. Astounding. My favorite part about her was the twinkle in her eye every time she looked at one of her grand's or great-grandbabies. I want to be THAT kind of grandma. The kind that makes the children know NO MATTER WHAT that grandma will always adore them just the way they are. Dave tells me sometimes when he comes to town and his time is brief he'll just go straight to grandma's and not even tell mom and dad he's in town. Anyway, I told Amy the next morning over breakfast that I was just so happy for her that she'd finally found a nice, normal family. Now, isn't that sad?
Speaking of grandma being a favorite person, I may be well on my way. This morning I clicked 'commit to buy' on a two-day trip to Disneyland for Caleb and I later next month. I've been telling him for a while now that that's what I'd like to do for his sixth birthday. I think we're going to have an absolute blast! Thinking about it this morning reminded me of the last amusement park we went to. It was Legoland, and even tho he was hardly three years old he wanted to go on ALL the rides and we'd beg for that extra half inch consideration so he could measure the required 42 inches on the scarier rides. The camera for this next photo was obviously placed at the scariest WHOA drop in the roller coaster.
Is that not a classic shot of his face? Looks like he's experiencing some sort of G-force! And keep in mind he has really thick hair...look at the way it's standing straight up! hah! I'm surprised that dress didn't blow up over my head! Funny thing was, as soon as we passed that scary part he was all smiles asking to 'go again!'. Oh, I think we're going to have a grand time! ;-)
WOW...what an amazing yard! Love the Lego land photo!!! (P.S. I can't believe you are old enough to have daughters that age!)
